The city's grand boulevard

The district around Kungsportsavenyn is Gothenburg at its most stately and 19th-century. While Inom Vallgraven, the historic centre, dates back to the city's founding, Vasastan was built up in the 19th century as an elegant residential quarter with grand stone townhouses, wide avenues and quiet squares.

Culture at Götaplatsen

At the top of the Avenyn, Götaplatsen brings together the city's major cultural institutions: the Museum of Art, with its collection of Nordic painting, the Concert Hall and the City Theatre, fronted by the Poseidon statue. Right next door is the Röhsska design museum. Vasastan itself invites you to linger, with quiet cafés and the library.

Kungsportsavenyn

Kungsportsavenyn, known to everyone as the Avenyn, is Gothenburg's central boulevard: about 1 km from the canal to Götaplatsen, lined with cafés, restaurants and bars.
